Hong Kong 2007-2008

I went on study abroad to Hong Kong when I was in undergrad. It was my first time out of the US and I loved it. Ever since this trip, my goals have included 'see the world' at the top of the list. Life happened and so it was almost 6 years before I got to see Asia again, but I did have some adventures in the good 'ol US of A in the meantime!

This is where I went that year. Visiting 10 countries just whet my appetite...

  • Hong Kong - studied at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, but surprisingly didn't do a lot of the main touristy things like riding the cable car on Lantau
  • Taiwan - visited my sister in Taipei and went to Alishan to see the sea of clouds
  • Winter Break - toured Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia during the 6 week break in between semesters

Trip Map: Hanoi, Hue, Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Phnom Penh, Siem Reap,
Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Pulau Penang, Medan, and Lake Toba

  • Japan - spent 12 days riding the train all over the 4 main islands for Spring Break
  • China - in addition to weekend trips during the school year, I spent one month working my way up to Beijing through Shanghai, Hangzhou, Huangshan, Nanjing, and Qingdao with side trips to Xi'an and Tianjin
  • Russia - my last hurrah was riding the Trans-Siberian Railway from Beijing to Moscow through Mongolia. I spent 3 days in Moscow and 4th of July weekend in New York City

Korea 2013

I went to Incheon, South Korea on a Whitaker Grant as part of my PhD research. I did not spend the whole summer working...

-First Impressions - Koreans drive like maniacs! But they're very nice otherwise
-Food! - part 1 and part 2
-Seoul Grand Park - my first solo outing in Korea
-Fabric shopping in Dongdaemun - mixing together my love of travel with my hobby :)
-Jeju-do - a beautiful tropical island that is quite different from other parts of Korea
-Royal Palaces - the palaces in Seoul from the Joseon Dynasty

Denmark 2013

I'm going to Denmark with my sister in August! It will be my first European country, I'm excited!
